Job Description

The Education Program Consultant (Academics and Learner Supports) will be an integral member of the Academics and Learner Supports Bureau, providing technical assistance, monitoring and support to school districts, Area Education Agencies, and non-public schools.

Your Responsibilities:

Provide leadership for statewide physical education and health programs for the development of instructional resources, supporting tools and processes for physical education (including adapted) and health within comprehensive efforts of the Department.

Support schools in addressing bullying prevention efforts and school discipline. This includes: being a member of the Bullying & Harassment team, providing professional learning and technical assistance for bullying, harassment and challenging behaviors; serving on the Department's Call Cadre; supporting Department staff and teams on implementation of SDI behavior; and providing technical assistance to schools regarding school-wide discipline and intervention plans for students with challenging behavior.

Develop and maintain professional working relationships, coordinate, and integrate efforts with area education agency and local school district personnel, appropriate personnel from college and university teacher preparation programs, and relevant state and national professional and service organizations, foundations, and coalitions for physical education, health and well-being.

DESIRABLE (OR) REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience working in public health or PK-12 health/PE.

• Experience serving students with challenging behaviors.

• Experience in instructional design and professional development.

• Experience providing technical assistance and professional learning to educators.

• Experience in special education and specially designed instruction.

• Experience interpreting and implementing state or federal education law.

Hours: 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday; some nights and weekends, occasional in-state and out-of-state travel

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

1) Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university and five years of full-time post-graduate work experience in any one or a combination of the following areas:

a. Professional training, teaching, or counseling experience in an educational setting;

b. Professional administrative experience in an educational setting;

c. Professional finance, accounting, or auditing experience, including the preparation or analysis of financial statements;

d. Professional experience in a major technical program area housed within the Iowa Department of Education;

e. Professional data integration, data analysis, and statistical analysis experience;

f. Professional communications experience, including public relations, marketing, or journalism;

g. Professional school safety and emergency preparedness experience.

2) A combination of a total of five years of post-graduate education and full-time experience (as described in number one), where twenty-four semester hours of accredited post-graduate college or university course work equals one year of full-time experience. 3) Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree, possession of a valid Iowa Teaching Certificate, and three academic years of teaching and/or administrative experience in PK-12 and/or a post-secondary educational institution. 4) Possession of a School Business Official Authorization from the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners and seven years of full-time professional experience in finance, accounting, or auditing, including the preparation or analysis of financial statements.
